Epidemic Simulation

The simulation of epidemics is subject to a huge number of complications.  This is especially true when some individuals are more susceptible or more infectious than others, and Gillespie simulation techniques break down.

My major work in this area is the Epidemics on Networks (EoN) software package.  This package was used in multiple countries to assist the COVID response.  It provides a range of simulation tools.

One of my future goals is to write a longer paper describing some of the issues that show up in simulation, specifically when there is population structure or heterogeneity.  These cannot be simulated efficiently using tools like the Gillespie model, and new techniques are needed.
